While you can just bring your bucket of color, splash it and brush it anywhere you feel like, a well-done paint job can require a bit more care and diligence.
1. Make sure the walls and other areas to be painted are clean. You don’t want to paint a dirty wall. The dirt will eventually push out and destroy your color.
2. Sandpaper rough and bumpy areas in the walls and ceiling. Leaving them on before painting will cause creases and blemishes in your paint.
3. Scrape old damaged paint jobs and patch them before applying new paint on top. This will make sure damages from old work does not affect your new coating.
4. Remove switch and outlet masks to avoid getting paint on to them.
5. Remove ceiling and wall lighting units and other fixtures to avoid getting paint on them.
6. Cover permanent or harder to remove fixtures such as doorknobs, wall mounts and others with plastic or paper exteriors to avoid destroying their look with stray paint drops.
With the above taken care of, you can start painting feeling optimistic that your room will look better than before.
